| Frequently Asked Questions |
ContentsGeneral questionsQ: How is my rating determined? A: Your rating (you can check it at my place panel on the right) is a complicated mixture of your activities in Artistic Club. We won't tell you the exact formula but we can mention that your rating is increased by the number of artworks you upload, the number of reviews you write, the number of projects you successfully complete, by your turnover of Artes, etc. It is lowered by the number of projects you failed, the unjust reports to the Court you made and most drastically by the number of your items that were banned. If your rating goes extremely down, your user account will be banned. Q: How does my rating affects voting? A: When you rate the artworks in your reviews ans when you vote for contest's submissions, your vote is weighted by your rating. That means that you have more influence than users with lower rating and vice versa. ArtesQ: What are Artes? A: Artes is the name of the virtual currency of Artistic Club. It has nothing to do with real money. You will never be asked to pay with real money. But in order to interact with the system, with other users, with various projects, contests and other functionality, each user has to deal with Artes. Although they are virtual, they give value to what you give and what you receive. Simply put, when you complete a review (that you requested by the System) of other user's artwork, you will receive the specified Artes as a compensation for your efforts. Symmetrically, when you upload an artwork, you need to pay some Artes, so the system will insure that you would review or have reviewed other user's artwork. Q: How do I earn Artes? A: Depending on the site's current conditions, the System may have given you a credit upon your registration. But don't rely solely on credt. We encourage active earning. The most popular way is to request reviews and complete them properly. You can also accept projects or offer a project as an "employee" and successfully complete those projects. Or if you are extremely talented you could win a contest and get payed with the Artes for the prize. request reviewsaccept projectsoffer a projectcontest Q: What is the credited Artes? A: When you first register, the System may give you a certain amount of Artes as a credit to encourage you to start uploading immediately. If you have been credited Artes, when you earn new Artes, you pay the credit up first and after that you get your available Artes increased. RegistrationQ: Why do I need to register? A: Artistic Club deals with author's copyrighted material. In order to view the artworks, you have to provide at least a little data about yourself to prove that you have read the Terms and Conditions. This makes much more sense if you are submitting your artworks. Q: Why do I have to provide so much information about myself? A: All the info about you is collected in your profile database. This helps us to filter the projects, contests or artworks you request to review that are suitable for you. For instance, if you are a graphic designer, you would more likely accept task for design rather than translation ones. Moreover, if you are an author and submitted any artworks to the website, if a commercial company contacts us about distribution intentions about your artworks, we would be able to contact you directly about those issues. Q: Why doesn't Artistic Club send me emails about registration confirmation or other? A: It does. Probably your antispam filter rejects our emails for some reasons. Set the antispam filter of your email or contact your email provider. UploadQ: Do I retain my rights as an author for the artworks I upload? A: Yes. See Terms and Conditions for more details. Q: Why do I have to pay Artes for uploading instead of you paying me for my artworks? A: First, you don't pay real money, but virtual Artes. Second, this website is a place for new and unique talents. Artistic Club gives you the opportunity to show the world your talent and to be involved in various artistic activities. Your artworks are subject of reviewing which any undiscovered author would like to receive. The efforts of your reviewers require Artes. As much as you require them if you review else's artworks. Q: Why do I have to upload my videos and music pieces to web services like YouTube before submitting them to Artistic Club? A: Artistic Club is not a music or video hosting web service. We do our best volunteering to develop the site and currently don't have the resources to host large amounts of data such as audio or video. The purpose of Artistic Club is to provide reviews, projects and contests in the field of arts, not to physically host artworks. Since there are publicly opened free web services like YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, etc., why not use them? Q: What are those questions I have to ask and give answers 'Yes' or 'No' when upload? A: This is an insurance against users who are in a rush to gain Artes by reviewing without actually have gone through the artworks they are about to review. You make out the questions about your artwork and supply the correct answers. If the reviewer has carefully read/watched/listened to your artwork, he/she will be able to answer them in order to prove that he/she is familiar with the artwork. Q: When I upload video or music, there is a 'preview' button. Why? A: Artistic Club doesn't physically provide video and audio hosting. You can use external web services such as YouTube, Vimeo, Jamendo and others to upload your videos and music pieces. When you upload your artwork there, you get a link or an embedding string which you paste into the corresponding Artistic Club upload field. Since the variety of those external sites is big, the System is not always able to determine if the embedding string is correct. So it relies on you to check it if it works on the 'preview' page. Q: What happens when I delete my artwork? A: You as an author have the rights to remove your artwork from the website. If you do it, it is erased form the list along with all its reviews. You don't get the Artes you payed for uploading it. Reading/watching/listening to artworksQ: Why can't I see a film or listen to a music? A: Films and music in Artistic Club are hosted at third parties' websites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Jamendo or others. They usually are Flash player based. If your browser doesn't support it, you won't be able to view them. Check the settings of your browser and the requirements of the external websites. Q: I view this same artwork over and over again, but its 'views' number doesn't increase. A: This index shows the unique user views only. It was increased just the first time you viewed the artwork. You see, the author would prefer to know how many different people have read/watched/listened to his work rather than how many times his artwork's title has been clicked. Reviews and CommentsQ: What is the difference between Reviews and Comments? A: Reviews are objective and constructive criticism of the uploaded artworks. Each review is tied to a specific artwork and its purpose is to give the author a professional opinion, advice and creative feedback about the merits, faults and potentials of his work. Comments could be spontaneous uncultivated impressions and notes of the site's visitors about ANY Artistic Club's page (including the one you're reading right now). Reviews are read and written only by registered users, while comments are available to anyone. Reviews are subject to Artes transaction and Court reporting but Comments are not. Still, you must comply with the rules and terms or your inappropriate comment will be deleted. "Awesome pic" or "That movie sucks!" is quite not enough for a Review but seems okay for a Comment. Q: What are those questions I have to answer with 'Yes' or 'No' when I review an artwork? A: This is an insurance against users who are in a rush to gain Artes by reviewing without actually have gone through the artworks they are about to review. The authors make out the questions and supply the correct answers. If you have carefully read/watched/listened to the artwork, you will be able to answer them in order to prove that you are familiar with the artwork. Q: Why don't I always gain Artes when I make a review? A: The way to earn Artes by reviewing is to request review Then the System selects an artwork from the type you specify. If you review it successfully, you are payed the price for it. If you view an artwork and decide to review it directly, that is considered a free will review and you won't be payed. That rule is invented because most of the users would review only the artworks they like. If not supported by a random selection by the System, the unpopular artworks will never have the chance to get reviews. And the main Artistic Club concept is that any artwork should have the opportunity to receive reviews. No matter positive or negative. Q: Can I delete my reviews? A: No, you can't. The author who uploaded the artwork you have reviewed, has payed the necessary amount of Artes for uploading it. It would be unfair to him/her to lose any review. ContestsQ: What happens with my Artes when I create a contest? A: The sum of the prizes are charged from you to a buffer deposit. Each time a user submits an artwork to your contest, you are payed the submissions fee. When the contest ends, the prizes are transfered from the deposit to the winners. Q: What is 'deadline' and what is 'end of contest'? A: Since a contest is created, it is open for submissions that confine to the contest's conditions. You can submit your artworks until the deadline. After that date, no submissions are allowed. Then begins the voting for the submissions. The voting ends at the contest's 'end date'. At that time, the winner, the second and third place are determined by the users' votes. Then the winners receive the prizes in Artes. Q: I want to submit my artwork to a contest but it doesn't allow me. A: Read carefully the conditions of the contest. Probably your artwork isn't of the required type or genre which makes it uneligible. ProjectsQ: What happens with my Artes when I demand a project? A: While your project is available, your Artes are intact. When someone accepts it, you are charged the value of your project. The value is transfered to a buffer deposit. If the project is done, the Artes go to the "employee". If it is rejected or failed, you are payed back the deposit. Q: Why can't I accept the project I like? A: If it is available and you can't accept it, perhaps you are not eligible. The eligibility criteria of the project is compared with your profile's additional info. So, edit and update the fields in your profile and be realistic. Q: I completed the project I had accepted and I pressed 'claimed done'. Still, I haven't received any Artes from it. A: Probably your "employer" hasn't confirmed that the project is done properly. He/she is reminded with a message every day that you claimed the project to be done. If the "employer" continues not to acknowledge your claim, you can report the project to the Court. Q: What happens when I reject the project I accepted? A: If you're the "employee", the project is considered 'rejected' and the value is transfered from the deposit back to the "employer". If you are the "employer", the value that was charged from you is transfered to the "employee" and the project is considered 'done'. That happens because the "employee" has probably done some work on it and he/she has to be compensated. EventsQ: Can I announce my birthday as an event? A: No, unless you invite everybody here at a party with free drinks. CourtQ: How come my artwork landed into the Court? It is absolutely innocent! A: Relax. Probably a mean envious person reported it to the Court for no reason. The just Artistic Club community will vote 'Not Guilty' and it will be discharged from the Court. But if it is really against the rules, you're in big trouble! It will be banned and your rating will suffer immensely. |
